If I Shut My Eyes

You skipped along beside me

Like a capricious summer breeze,

Your lissom limbs fluid,

Flowing with grace and ease.

Your childish voice filled the air

With incessant chatter and song;

I wanted that time to last forever

But childhood doesn’t last long.

This is how I remember you,

If I shut my eyes for a while

Your image appears before me;

How I loved your insouciant smile.
